No wonder when there's David Harewood OBE (Homeland, Best of Enemies) acting the role of Othello, Toby Jones OBE (Detectorists, Mr Bates vs the Post Office) as Iago and Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession, Masters of Sex) as Desdemona. The Tony Award-winner Tom Morris OBE (War Horse) directs and the icing on the cake - the original music - is by PJ Harvey. Whether you've seen Shakespeare on stage before or not, this production is designed to thrill.
Desdemona is the intelligent, strong-willed daughter of a senator, who is restricted by the formal role she must play as a high-status member of society. Othello has fought his way to the top in a white man's world. When they fall in love and marry in secret, they find themselves embroiled in circumstances they could never have expected, ultimately wrenching the future out of their control. Written by William Shakespeare around 1603, the play is now directed by Tom Morris. The Design comes from Ti Green. There's Sound Design and Additional Music by Jon Nicholls, lighting Design by Richard Howell, Make-Up Design by Dominic Skinner, and Hair and Wigs Design by Suzanne Scotcher. The Movement Director is Laila Diallo and the Costume Supervisor is Sabia Smith. The Dramatherapist is Samantha Adams and the Casting comes from Anna Cooper CDG. A treat for lovers of classics with a twist!
