Rose description

About Rose

The original production of Rose took place at London’s National Theatre and on Broadway, both in 1999. Decades later Rose is just as relevant as heartbreaking stories about refugees hit the headlines and their plight becomes a political hot potato. Once more, empathy appears to be in short supply. Maureen Lipman brings the story of Rose to extraordinary life.

As the plight of refugees and allegations of anti-Semitism continue to dominate the news, this play is a moving reminder of the awful events that made the 20th century unique. The production enjoyed sell-out runs during 2022 at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester and London’s The Park Theatre. Now Lipman is back to continue her role in this critically acclaimed production of Martin Sherman’s masterpiece. It’s on at the Ambassador’s Theatre for just 28 performances, from Tuesday 23rd May 2023, for a limited four week run.

Maureen Lipman is an Olivier award-winning performer who has worked with The National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as starring in many West End productions including Outside Edge, Messiah, See How They Run, and Wonderful Town. She has played Coronation Street’s Evelyn Plummer on TV for the past five years and has delighted us in Doctor Who. The award-winning writer Martin Sherman’s past triumphs include Bent, Messiah, and A MadHouse in Goa, along with the movies Alive and Kicking and Mrs Henderson Presents. He also wrote the Broadway Musical The Boy From Oz.
