Salome description
Hang onto your hats and prepare for a wild ride through a particularly radical, decadent version of Oscar Wilde's Salome, on stage at Theatre Royal Haymarket. This dark story of power and obsession is directed by Maxim Didenko. A provocative English-language production, it premiered at Jaffa Fest 2024. Now it's in the capital, told with Hebrew and Russian subtitles and billed as a hypnotic re-telling of the bible story that inspired Wilde's scandalous masterwork.
Salomé is the stepdaughter of the dodgy ruler Herod Antipas. She's obsessed with John the Baptist, but he really isn't that into her. Furious at being rejected, Salomé wreaks revenge – and her deadly Dance of the Seven Veils unleashes chaos. It just goes to show, forbidden yearnings can be deadly. Design by Galya Solodovnikova and Lighting by Gleb Filshtinsky create a rich backdrop to this shocking story of seduction and revenge that blends dance, drama, and visual theatre, brought to life with gorgeous Music by Louis Lebe. Produced by Ekaterina Kashyntseva and co-produced by Len Blavatnik, the show is presented by the Gesher Theatre. Expect something provocative, brave and and haunting, a daring take on Wilde's gory classic.
