Shadowlands description

Prepare to be moved as the marvellous Hugh Bonneville, BAFTA, Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe Award-nominee as well as star of TV's Downton Abbey and Paddington, returns to his critically acclaimed role in Shadowlands. Written for TV in 1985 by William Nicholson (Gladiator), his 1989 stage adaptation won the Evening Standard's Best Play Award, then a Tony on Broadway. The 1993 movie starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger was nominated for an Oscar and won a BAFTA. This brilliant production first delighted audiences at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2019.

In Oxford, University Don C. S. Lewis is about to take flight on a transformative love affair with US poet Joy Gresham. When they fall in love, he starts to question the beliefs he's held for a lifetime. Then Joy is diagnosed with terminal cancer. This is the story of their romance, a beautiful, tender, philosophical play about the incredible power of love. Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Half A Sixpence and Here & Now – The Steps Musical) with casting from Annelie Powell CDG, the producers are Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, Trafalgar Theatre Productions and Tilted. A sensitive story that resonates with everyone who sees it.
