Teeth ‘n’ Smiles description
You'd love to see Self Esteem, aka Rebecca Lucy Taylor, doing her remarkable thing live? Not a problem. This is the 50th anniversary of David Hare's powerful 1975 play Teeth ‘N’ Smiles, back in the West End for 2026 to celebrate a story that never seems to grow old and whose message never fades. Expect a potent mix of rock, rebellion and raw emotion as the artist takes to the stage for her West End play debut, hailed as 'explosive' and given a fresh new face thanks to additional new Self Esteem music and lyrics.
The story follows lead singer Maggie Frisby, the ultimate 1960s rebel who once held a place at the forefront of '60s counterculture. Now broke and disillusioned, her band's dreams of anarchy and rebellion have well and truly died but Maggie still stands firm amongst the wreckage. Driven by alcohol, fury and a voice to die for, she makes a powerhouse performance proving that while the ship might be sinking, the music still matters. Reimagined for our equally troubled times, the play is as relevant as ever. The show is directed by Daniel Raggett, with music by Nick Bicât and lyrics from Tony Bicât. A legendary performer playing a legendary part at a legendary West End venue... what's not to like!
