About The Enfield Haunting

Love spookiness? Adore a true ghost story? You’ll love this, and you’ll also love the top quality cheap tickets for The Enfield Haunting we have available on our site. So let’s explore. What’s all the fuss about?

What's the story of The Enfield Haunting?

The Enfield Haunting is the bizarre true story of one of the world’s most famous poltergeist events, which took place during the late 1970s. The play is based on the first-hand accounts of the time, revealed by one of the ghost hunters themselves. The plot reveals what happened when a single mother did everything in her power to protect her three children from something so incomprehensible, so deeply disturbing, that they were absolutely dreading the terrifying conclusion that seemed to be hurtling their way.

First told on TV in a three-part series during 2015, now it’s coming to the stage. Comedian and actor Catherine Tate plays the single mother, Peggy Hodgson, who will do anything to protect her kids from the haunting. David Threlfall plays the real-life ghost hunter Maurice Grosse, a paranormal investigator who helped the Hodgson family understand and overcome their experiences.

Paul Unwin has written the play and he also comes with excellent dramatic credentials, the co-creator of the world-class medical drama Casualty. He spent time with a poltergeist expert to help him pin down what happened to the Hodgson family.

As he said, “Before Guy Lyon Playfair the poltergeist expert died in 2018, I spent a long afternoon with him in his basement flat in Earls Court. He and Maurice Grosse had spent months with the Hodgson family trying to protect them, but also make sense of what was going on. What Guy told me was terrifying. So much of what appears to have happened was impossible to fake and yet at the centre of the whole thing were real people trying to make sense of their lives. The Enfield Haunting is a psychological ghost story. It is a ghost story for now.”

The Enfield Haunting is on at the Ambassadors Theatre in London from 30th November 2023 to 2nd March 2024, following runs at Brighton and Richmond.
