The Last Ship description

Immerse yourself in a fresh reimagining of Sting's popular musical, The Last Ship, in town after a hugely successful tour delighting audiences in Europe, Australia and the USA. Featuring a new book from Barney Norris, the story takes us back to Sting's childhood in the north eastern shipbuilding town of Wallsend, a place he was desperate to escape but still loves. The plot reveals what happens when a shipyard is threatened with closure, potentially laying everyone off and tearing the heart out of the community. Sting himself stars as the influential Jackie White, whose health is suffering at a time when his town needs his strength more than ever.

Directed by Leo Warner, the show is filled with beloved show tunes including Island of Souls, All This Time and When We Dance. It stars more than fifty people, an enormous cast creating an exhilarating experience. And there's a crack creative team to reckon with in this magical fully-staged production. Set and video design by59, a Journey studio, set and props by Jenny Melville, animation direction by Matt Taylor and video design from Benjamin Pearcy join costume design by Loren Elstein, lighting design by Adam Bassett, and choreography by Rebecca Howell. Sound designer Tom Gibbons, musical supervisor and orchestrator Rob Mathes, and MD and co-orchestrator Richard John complete the picture. Iconic stuff!
