Waiting For Godot description

About Waiting For Godot

Waiting for Godot returns to theatreland, on in the West End for 2024/2025. Two huge acting stars drive the plot; the acclaimed film, TV and stage actor Lucian Msamati of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Death in Paradise fame plays Estragon. Vladimir is played by Ben Whishaw, who has also wowed us in too many productions to list including Mojo, Hamlet, Skyfall, Spectre and No Time To Die.

Add the fact that this happens to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century and the signs are looking particularly good. Don’t miss the play that changed the rules forever. Waiting for Godot hits the stage at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited season from September 2024.

What's the story of Waiting For Godot?

The plot focuses on two men who are waiting for a man called Godot, standing next to a tree chatting. They have no idea who Godot is, what time he’ll arrive or why they’re meant to be meeting him, but they know it’ll be amazing.

The hope that the mere thought of Godot inspires in the men, and in other characters that come along, gives them the dignity they need to rise above life’s madness and disappointments. As the dialogue says, “Let us do something, while we have the chance… at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not. Let us make the most of it before it is too late!”
