War Horse description
As a nation of animal lovers, this magnificent play has a special place in our hearts. War Horse is back in the capital, on stage at the National Theatre's Olivier Theatre for a strictly limited run. The puppetry alone will blow your mind, extraordinarily real-feeling and captivating from the start. The puppet design and fabrication comes from Handspring Puppet Company's Adrian Kohler, with movement and horse choreography from Toby Sedgwick and puppet direction by Matthew Forbes. And the plot, which explores the power of love and the nature of courage, is just as compelling.
Meet young Albert, who lives in Devon. He adores his horse Joey, but Joey gets sold to the Cavalry like thousands of other horses from all walks of life, sent to the front to help fight the First World War. Albert can't let go. He's determined to find his friend, embarking on a bold mission to bring Joey home. Both of them have adventures along the way as the plot unfolds and they edge closer to being reunited. This powerful story about courage and love is directed by Tom Morris with revival director Katie Henry. The Design is by Rae Smith, lighting design by Rob Casey and music from Songmaker John Tams. Sound design by Christopher Shutt and additional music by Adrian Sutton complete the creative team, with casting from Jill Green CDG. It's no surprise this play has become a legend in its own lifetime.
