Mousetrap description

About The Mousetrap

Can you keep a secret? If so you'll join upwards of ten million other theatre lovers who have kept the identity of the mysterious killer secret. And that's amazing. The Mousetrap has been on stage in London non-stop since 1952 and it's still going strong. It's a very cool vintage who-dunnit from the infamous Agatha Christie and it’s on at St Martins theatre. The voice recording of the show's radio announcer, Deryck Guyler, is the same one they used for the first ever showing, a little chunk of ancient audio history. The plot remains as compelling as ever despite its age, and the mystery itself is still edge-of-the-seat gripping.

What's the story of The Mousetrap?

It’s winter. It's snowing hard. A group of dodgy strangers turns up at a country hotel and before long they're snowed in, unable to leave. When a policeman arrives and warns everyone there's a dangerous murderer on the loose, in their midst, things start to get scary. One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts and are investigated, and ultimately they lay a clever trap to reveal the killer. This is the longest running play in the West End. It marked its 25,000th performance back in 2012, an enduringly popular traditional murder mystery and a legend in the West End.

Who is on the The Mousetrap creative team?

Expect a wonderfully clever balance between poignant moments and comedy, all taking place against an unusually convincing backdrop. The entertainment comes courtesy of a small yet perfectly formed creative team. The Director is Ian Talbot and the Artistic Director is Denise Silvey. The Costume Supervisor is Janet Hudson Holt and the Producers are Adam Spiegel and Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen.

What are people saying about The Mousetrap?

  • The Guardian - “A piece of stage life lifted wholesale from the past, a piece that carries the DNA of the first performance, that has not been re-created but continuously re-enacted.”
  • Time Out - “Christie's trap still snaps shut.”
  • The Stage - “An entertaining night out.”
