Cats description
It's all about cats. But there's more. Cats the musical also explores themes of identity, acceptance, and the cycle of life and death, a powerful story to fire the imagination. This is one of national treasure Andrew Lloyd Webber's best-loved shows, a hit wherever it's produced and seen by countless people since it debuted in 1981. The quirky plot, based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, introduces us to London's rebellious felines and strays as they meet up under the Jellicle moon, each hoping to be the chosen one. Which cat will magically ascend to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn and enjoy a new life? Each cat tells its own story through song and dance, trying to impress the wise leader Old Deuteronomy.
The score includes classics like Old Deuteronomy, Macavity: The Mystery Cat, Jellicle Ball, and of course Memory. This brand new production is directed and choreographed by Regent's Park Open Air Theatre Artistic Director Drew McOnie (Jesus Christ Superstar, Brigadoon). The outdoor venue alone is a little slice if magic, the perfect setting for this colourful story to unfold. No wonder it is already being talked about in theatreland. Great entertainment for the family, the show's on stage for a limited run in London before taking off on a UK tour. We think it's all set to sell out.
