What's the story of Stranger Things: The First Shadow?
For the uninitiated: Stranger Things is a sci-fi TV series following a gang of teenagers in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, as they discover a weird world of strange creatures. The series won more than 70 awards worldwide and sits at the top of the Netflix Most Popular English TV list, with more than 1.35 billion hours of the series viewed around the world since 2016.
Welcome to Hawkins. The year is 1959 and this is a normal town with ordinary worries. Jim Hopper's car is broken. Bob Newby's sister thinks his radio show is rubbish. Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the heck out of town. But when a new student, Henry Creel, arrives in town with his family, they discover the shadows of the past have a very long reach - and it's not as easy as they think to make a new start.
Kate Trefry, the original Stranger Things writer, has crafted this prequel, based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Trefry herself. The creative team is a multi-award-winning group of people, signalling the quality of the production loud and clear. The co-director is Justin Martin. The set design is by Miriam Buether, the costume design by Brigitte Reiffenstuel, and lighting design by Jon Clark. The sound design comes from Paul Arditti, and the illusions design and visual effects come from Jamie Harrison and Chris Fisher.
Video design and visual effects come from 59 Productions, and movement direction is by Coral Messam. Wigs, hair and make-up design comes from Campbell Young Associates, the casting is by Charlotte Sutton CDG, and the international casting consultancy by Jim Carnahan, and the technical director is Gary Beestone for Gary Beestone Associates.
