The seat I was in greatly reduced my enjoyment of the play. It’s a long way from the stage which made it difficult to see the actors’ expressions. And it is high above the stage which meant that anyone leaning forward in front of me which people sometimes did - partially blocked my view of some of the actors, leaving me to stare at the audience in the seats behind the stage. To make matters worse on the night I was there there was an unfortunate incident. An audience member a few seats away in my row was taken ill halfway through the first act. Attending to her speedily and ensuring that she could be safely taken out of the auditorium and given the care she needed was rightly the priority of the theatre staff. And they acted very professionally. However all this inevitably caused difficulties for those in the surrounding seats. My friend and I in the seats at the end of the row had to spend at least 10 minutes standing on the stairs unable to follow what was happening on stage at all. I thought someone might at least have spoken to us afterwards to acknowledge the disruption and check we were not too badly affected. But noone did. My friend thought he had missed too much of the play to get back into it and left at the interval. I decided to stay , given the amount we’d paid for the tickets. But it took me some time to understand how the plot was developing.
