Crazy For You description
Put on your best dancing shoes and tap along to the Gillian Lynne Theatre in 2023 for a trip into Gershwin's greatest hits.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this brand-new production of Crazy For You comes dancing into the West End, ready to revive some fond memories with electric choreography, unforgettable songs and breath-taking performances by its entire cast.
What is Crazy For You about?
Not seen the show before? Here's what to expect!
Bobby Child (played by Charlie Stemp) dreams of entering the glamourous world of showbusiness, but his family want him to stay home and run their banking business. Feeling obliged to help out his family, Bobby reluctantly heads to Nevada on a work trip to close a theatre. But before he can foreclose, he falls in love with the theatre owner's daughter, Polly (played by Carly Anderson).
Falling in love with Polly changes Bobby's heart, and he decides to put on a show to help save the theatre, renew the town and hopefully win Polly's love in return. But he can't put on a show alone, so he calls in his talented dancer friends from Zangler Follies in New York City for the ultimate show-stopping production.
A must-see for any Gershwin fan, Crazy For You is packed with glorious Gershwin melodies. The musical features some of his greatest hits, including Someone to Watch Over Me, I Got Rhythm and They Can't Take That Away from Me.
The original production won multiple Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and its revival is already proving popular with audiences, having achieved a sold-out season at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
Who are the cast and creatives of Crazy For You?
Straight from his celebrated run as Bert in Mary Poppins, Olivier Award nominated actor, Charlie Stemp is playing Bobby. He's certainly no stranger to the show, having performed the role in the Chichester production before the West End transfer was announced.
Also reprising their roles from the Chichester production is Carly Anderson as Polly Baker and Tom Edden as Bela Zangler. Carly has many musical theatre credits to her name, including playing Glinda in Wicked (international tour) and Gwen in Sunny Afternoon (West End and Hampstead). Drama Desk Award winner Tom Edden is also no stranger to the stage, having recently played De Guiche in Jamie Lloyd's latest production of Cyrano De Bergerac in both the West End and on Broadway.
Crazy For You is directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman: true Broadway royalty and winner of five Tony and two Olivier Awards for productions including The Producers,< Contact and The Scottsboro Boys.
The show's witty book and dialogue are written by Ken Ludwig, who also wrote the Tony Award-winning production, Lend Me a Tenor.
Further creatives and casting are to be announced.
