Miss Saigon description
If a powerful love story full of beauty and tragedy dings your bell Miss Saigon is for you, back in town for a strictly limited 2027 run. It weaves the tale of a 17 year old orphaned Vietnamese girl, Kim, who falls deeply in love with an American GI, Chris, at the tail end of the 1970s Vietnamese War. Exploring themes of love, sacrifice and war's horrible impact, it's a sung-through musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, inspired by Madame Butterfly, Puccini's beloved opera. Having premiered in the capital in 1989 the story has never grown old, just as compelling and tragic as ever. Additional lyrics by Michael Mahler, plus new Orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, are inspired by William David Brohn's splendid original.
Great emotional depth and powerful music sit at the heart of the musical's success, supporting Kim's sad story as she's separated from Chris, bears the son he never knew he'd fathered, and struggles to reunite herself with the man she adores. But as it turns out, Chris has married someone else. A cracking creative team is on board for the run, including Lighting Designer Bruno Poet, Sound Designer Adam Fisher, Video Designer George Reeve and Musical Supervisor Graham Hurman. Co-Choreographers Chrissie Cartwright and Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, and Set and Costume Design by Andrew D. Edwards add to the magic to deliver a truly beautiful London theatre experience.
