Sister Act description

About Sister Act

It's naughty but nice. It's very funny. And this fabulously fun show hasn't been off the stage since it first appeared in 2006. It hit London for the first time in 2009 and scored a huge hit, now it's back. This time Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg have changed the leading character, Deloris Van Cartier, and messed with the story in the most wonderful way. The original Deloris was aged 23 but to increase the stakes and boost the comedy, they've made her older. She just also happens to be even more irreverent and even more entertaining than ever. Fantastic stuff.

What's the story of Sister Act?

Meet the brilliant soul singer Deloris Van Cartier, originally played by Whoopi Goldberg in the movie. When Deloris witnesses her gangster lover Vince LaRocca committing murder, she's forced to enter Witness Protection disguised as a nun. Sent to a California convent, she is bored stiff before long and soon gets in trouble. Sent to work with the choir to keep her out of mischief, Deloris transforms the group into a brilliant soul act that draws attention... but is it the right sort of attention? Probably not! This story delves deep into the power of friendship, the strength of sisterhood, and the beautiful soul music that brings everything together.

Who is starring in Sister Act?

You want big names? You've got them! The show stars Brenda Edwards, Jennifer Saunders, and Whoopi Goldberg herself. And that means tickets won't hang around for very long. Goldberg is a genuine US movie star, winner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony as well as once being the world's best-paid actress. Saunders is one of our best-loved comedians, star of TV and stage and the big screen. Brenda Edwards is an English singer, actress and television personality loved for her work on TV's Loose Women and more.

Who is on the Sister Act creative team?

This splendidly fresh new production comes from Jamie Wilson, who holds a place in the list of the top 100 most influential people and partnerships in 2018-19 thanks to The Stage magazine. The creative team comprises the Tony winner and 8 times Oscar winner Alan Menken, who created the music.
